The Future of Dietes: Introducing Our Hybrid Line
Dietes Grandiflora , Bi-color, and Hybrid
At Growing Hope Seeds, we’re excited to share ongoing work with a new Dietes hybrid — a cross between Dietes grandiflora and Dietes bicolor. This special hybrid combines the most striking traits from both parents, producing flowers that are truly one-of-a-kind.
Our program has produced three unique forms:
White Bi-Color Type – Similar in pattern to D. bicolor, but featuring elegant white tones instead of yellow.
“Orange” and “Lemon Drop” Type – A vibrant selection with soft orange hues and a distinct bloom unlike any existing Dietes variety.
Dietes ‘Sun Drop’
Dietes ‘Yellow Drop’
Dietes ‘Orange Drop’
We’ve carefully separated the three lines and are now cultivating them for seed production, with plans to make them available at a wholesale level once crops reach full maturity in the next few years. These hybrids are being developed to introduce new diversity and color options to the landscaping and nursery industries, while maintaining the durability and low-maintenance nature Dietes are known for.
In the photos below, you can see the difference in the seed pod sizes compared to D. grandiflora and D. bicolor. The hybrid pods are intermediate in size — right between both parent species — another sign of the successful cross and balanced genetics of this new variety.

Stay tuned as we continue refining these hybrids and preparing them for large-scale seed production. The next evolution of Dietes is on its way — exclusive to Growing Hope Seeds.
